Even the world’s greatest LinkedIn profile doesn’t mean much without engagement. Engagement means taking action – like commenting on posts, producing original content, writing recommendations, and more.

Boosting engagement raises your visibility on LinkedIn. When your visibility grows, you’re more likely to have good things happen – like being noticed by recruiters and industry competitors.

Here’s what you need to know.

Publish Content

Publishing content is one of the best ways to show engagement on LinkedIn. This means writing articles firsthand, reposting interesting content you come across, and creating new posts on topics you care about.

By consistently publishing content, you’re able to build your ‘voice’ while reaching a broader audience. Over time, this can enhance your professional reputation and open up new opportunities for collaboration.

Join Groups

Joining groups is a great way to tap into industry-specific conversations and networking opportunities.

As a starting point, I recommend looking for groups to join in your industry or geographic location. Also, there’s no limit to the number of LinkedIn Groups you can join – so join a bunch!

Once you’re in a group, start engaging. You may do so by commenting on posts, replying to comments, and asking thoughtful questions.

Follow Company Pages

When you follow a company’s LinkedIn page you get updates on that company’s activities, announcements, and job postings directly in your newsfeed.

Liking, commenting on, and sharing company posts are the most common strategies for engagement.

Engaging with company pages increases your visibility with fellow followers (including employees and decision makers) which could lead to valuable networking opportunities, potential job offers, or collaborations.

Follow Influencers

Similar to following company pages – when you follow influencers on LinkedIn, their activity appears in your newsfeed, providing opportunities for meaningful engagement.

Start by identifying key thought leaders and industry experts relevant to your field. Look for individuals who are recognized for their expertise, have a substantial following, and frequently post content you care about.

Once you’re following influencers it’s time to engage with the content they share by liking, commenting, and sharing their posts.

Write Recommendations

Writing thoughtful and sincere recommendations is a great way to engage on LinkedIn. This means identifying people in your network and writing a recommendation on their LinkedIn profile.

Have you ever written a LinkedIn recommendation for a person in your network? I am guessing probably not. Most people haven’t. However, writing a recommendation is a generous act that can brighten someone’s day.

So, go for it!

When you write recommendations, it reflects positively on you. Showing recognition to others says a lot about your character, professional values, and ability to celebrate the achievements of those around you.
